PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey met with President Barack Obama when he arrived in Phoenix Wednesday evening.

The president plans a speech at Central High School Thursday morning that will showcase housing sector gains since the real estate crash. Obama also plans to unveil new steps to increase home ownership.

The meeting between the Republican governor and Democratic president was brief. Scarpinato says Ducey doesn't plan to attend Obama's Thursday event.

Former Gov. Jan Brewer got a lot of attention during a runway meeting with Obama at Mesa's airport in 2012 when an Associated Press photographer captured her wagging her finger at the president.

Obama met with some members of the public invited to attend the arrival of Air Force One before leaving the airport.

The President is staying the night at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak in Phoenix before Thursday's event.
