Justin Timberlake to headline Super Bowl LII halftime show

It's official: Justin Timberlake is headed to Minneapolis this February to perform at the halftime show of Super Bowl LII.

He made the announcement on Twitter in a video with friend and television host Jimmy Fallon Sunday night, with the NFL confirming the news in a statement.

Rumors swirled in recent weeks that the performer would be making another appearance at the event, after performing at Super Bowl XXXV in 2000 and headlining the show with Janet Jackson in 2004. It's been 13 years since that show, where he pulled down a part of Jackson's costume near the end of a rendition of "Rock Your Body." That incident is the reason why there is a five-second delay on live music broadcasts today.

This year's performance is sponsored by Pepsi, and boasts the largest single audience for a musical event every year.

Timberlake is a decorated artist and performer, with 10 Grammys and a host of other awards, including an Academy Award® nomination last year for the song "Can't Stop This Feeling" from the movie "Trolls." He has also won four Emmy awards for his appearances on weekly variety show "Saturday Night Live."

Past Super Bowl halftime performers include Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Prince, The Rolling Stones, U2 and many more.
