One person killed in crane collapse at Bradenton marina

One man was killed after a crane collapsed at the Twin Dolphin Marina in Bradenton.

Police say when rescuers arrived, a large crowd was trying to free a construction worker who was trapped under the crane at the marina, which is located along the Bradenton Riverwalk.

"It appears as though the crane snapped," Police Chief Melanie Bevan said.

He added the crane likely weighed about one ton.

The worker was freed and despite efforts to save him, the man could not be revived, police say.

10th Street West and 3rd Avenue West was shut down because of the accident.

One person was injured during the rescue, police say, and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"Everyone pulled together quickly to do all that they could, but it was too late," Chief Bevan said at a news conference. "It's the holidays and this gentleman has a family," said Chief Bevan. "It's devastating."

The construction worker has been identified as Chadwick Brown, 47, of Pinellas County.

"They went to work this morning like every other day and they don't get to home today," said Zach Troyer, who works nearby.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
