Tolleson home destroyed after fire causes roof to cave in

A fire in Tolleson destroyed a home near 87th Avenue and Taylor Street on Monday morning.

Several crews were called to the scene put out the blaze, which had smoke that could be seen for miles.

Investigators say the fire began in the home's attic and believe the house may have been abandoned.

The roof collapsed and the home is a total loss.

Luckily, no one was inside the house at the time and no firefighters were injured battling the flames.

"It was a fairly advanced fire.. upon arrival, the initial Captain said it was pretty advanced for the time in which they responded, so it had been going for awhile," said Capt. Brandon Husky of the Goodyear Fire Department.

It's still unclear what started the fire, but crews are investigating.
