Eastbound I-10 reopens after deadly pedestrian crash

Eastbound I-10 was closed for hours on Sunday morning after a pedestrian was hit and killed.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the deadly crash happened at about 3:45 a.m. on eastbound I-10 near 51st Avenue.

DPS troopers say a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle, and the person was pronounced dead. It's not clear why the person was on the side of the road.

Several other crashes occurred in the area following the deadly pedestrian accident.

Traffic on eastbound I-10 was backed up past 67th Avenue, and drivers were routed on and off the freeway at 51st Avenue. Drivers were advised to avoid the area where the crashes occurred as DPS troopers investigate.

The freeway reopened at about 7:30 a.m.
