US 60 to shut down sporadically for blasting operations

Drivers heading east of Phoenix on the US 60 will need to allow for extra time or plan ahead since the freeway will be closed sporadically this week for blasting operations.

Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers blasting will be done on the US 60 to crate a new passing lane and widen the road near Superior.

The construction is scheduled along the two-mile-long climbing lane from Devil's Canyon to Oak Flat from mileposts 231 to 233.

Five scheduled closures are:

Tuesday, Sept. 29th from 9am to 10;30am, and then from 1pm to 2:30pm

Wednesday, Sept. 30th from 9am to 10:30am

Thursday, Oct. 1 from 9am to 10:30am, and again from 1pm to 2:30pm.

Traffic will be stopped eastbound at milepost 227 and westbound at milepost 235 until blasting work is finished and the debris is cleared from the road. Law enforcement will assist with traffic control.

The $8.8 million dollar safety improvement project will make it easier to pass vehicles. Drivers can head to State Routes 77 or 177 for detours.
