Family seeking snow becomes trapped on a mountain; rescued by search crews

A Phoenix family is telling their story after surviving after being stuck in the snow on New Years Day for hours.

Their heater was broken and they had no cell signal, no one was around to help.

The family wanted to go enjoy the snow, but just about everything that could go wrong did.

The Zambrano family laughing tonight from their warm Phoenix home, but a few days ago nothing funny or warm about their predicament.

They were stuck in the snow, their car was sitting on the edge of the mountain and they had no way to call for help.

It was New Year's Day and they did what many others did, headed north to see the snow.

They enjoyed the snow in Cave Creek but wanted to see more. They traveled up a mountain on a narrow road covered in snow, pretty soon the car was stuck on the edge of the mountain.

"I'm trying to stay on the road in reverse and the car slid to the cracks," said Jorge Zambrano.

As if the freezing temperatures weren't enough the heater wasn't working.

After six hours they were able to get a signal and call for help, but they had no clue where they were.

YCSO deputies had them use their "Google Compass" to determine their location and eventually help arrived.

The family have a message for the YCSO Search and Rescue Team, "thank you and god bless these guys," they said.
