Residents meet President Obama during south Phoenix visit

Before President Obama gave his speech, he made a surprise visit to a south Phoenix neighborhood, greatly affected by the housing crisis.

He stopped by the Nueva Villas at Beverly housing development near Baseline and 7th Avenue on Thursday morning.

He spoke with several people in the neighborhood who were obviously surprised to see him.

Two of those people were Amber Lell and her baby Brenna. Lell says she went outside to bring her garbage can in when she saw a group of men across the street. Shortly afterward, President Obama himself came up and greeted her and the little girl.

Another little girl in the neighborhood was still in her pajamas when the secret service gave her a special pin.

"Very shocking, totally star struck, I mean you don't meet the most influential man in the world, you just don't do that and he came up, held the baby, gave me a hug, it was just crazy," said Lell.

The neighborhood went into foreclosure, but a local organization bought it and did some renovations.
