The man behind the film is local film maker, Travis Mills. Durant's is located along Central Avenue and Fillmore Street.
The film's trailer reads: "Jack Durant is one of Arizona's greatest icons. He was a restaurateur, opening up one of the most famous places to drink and dine in Phoenix.""Durant's Never Closes is a movie about Jack Durant who opened Durant's in 1950, and he operated it until he died in 1987," Mills said. "It's just a movie about him, the restaurant and his supposed mob connections, his romantic relationships…that kind of thing."
Actor Tom Sizemore will star in the film as Jack Durant. And although all lights are green for the film, they're asking for help.
"We already have investors for the project, but we need more money for festivals and marketing," Mills said. "That what this Kickstarter is all about."
In just a few short weeks, they've raised more than $12,000. Mills says this film could be the gateway to more films being shot here in Arizona.
"We're not interested in going to LA and I think this movie is a great step in bringing the Arizona film industry a big thing," Mills said.
The film is expected to be released in early 2016.Durant's Never Closes Kickstarter Campaign
