MCSO: New drug hotline pays off as tipsters lead deputies to marijuana grow homes

A tip leads Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies to two homes in Glendale where they made a big drug bust.

Deputies seized more than 500 marijuana plants.

At the first home near Dysart and Maryland Avenue, they discovered a growing operation with more than 400 pot plants.  Officials say the suspect, James Goulding, led them to a second home, where they found 96 more plants, along with 6 pounds of packaged marijuana, LSD and a 12 gauge shotgun.

Goulding, 29, was taken into custody.

Authorities say the tips came in from the Sheriff's new drug hotline that's displayed on MCSO transport vehicles, which travel hundreds of miles each day, reaching thousands of potential viewers.

"We've already received over 50 tips on this hotline in a few short weeks which resulted in 31 investigations not including today's seizure. I'd say that's a good return on investment," stated Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
