Cell phone video from a shopper at a Chandler Walmart store shows a security guard struggling with a shoplifter and placing them in a choke-hold.

FOX 10 has obtained the police report into the incident from Chandler Police.

Police say the accused shoplifter is 23-year-old Alissa Kraiza. Her family does not condone her behavior, but says they think security should not have laid a hand on her.

"The way they handled it was definitely out of control," said Darlene Kraiza, the suspect's mother.

A customer recorded the scuffle between Kraiza and security; she was worried the loss prevention officers had gone too far.

WalMart issued the following statement into the incident: "We have policies in place for these situations and we sincerely regret the matter was handled poorly. We are continuing to investigate the details of this situation and will take action accordingly."

The suspect's mother says she worked as a loss prevention officer before.

"In my experience we were not allowed to put our hands on shoplifters, we were peace officers, that's all we are, we were not allowed to put our hands on any shoplifter, we were to call the police immediately and that is all that we could do," she said.

Chandler Police were called to the scene and interviewed Kraiza. In the police report, she told officers she took $60 worth of video games, she did not have the money to pay for the games, did not have a job, and was planning the sell the video games.

Police say the call was a shoplifter who was combative with security.

This wasn't the first time Kraiza resisted arrest.  In 2011, she was charged with resisting arrest and had drugs on her.

During Wednesday's incident, Kraiza tried to scratch and punch the loss prevention officers. She also did not report any injuries to police or say she was put into a choke hold.

Kraiza is now facing one misdemeanor count of shoplifting.  Surveillance video has been turned over to police and the store will move forward with prosecuting the shoplifting charge.
