Military moms honored at Waste Management Phoenix Open

It's a unique experience at the Waste Management Phoenix Open for some members of our military family; they are moms-to-be.

Plenty of people will come out to the event to spend a day on the course, but there's a special event for the brave to celebrate 40 mothers.

"We have a very simple mission; to find ways to give back to our service men and women and their families and family is very important today," said Jay Voelker with the PGA Tour.

40 moms received star treatment to celebrate them and their little one on the way. FOX 10's Andrea Robinson emceed the event, and Cindy McCain hosted the morning brunch and addressed the women as well.

The idea for the baby shower was birthed by one volunteer who just had a heart to help. Her uncle who was deployed 8-years-ago gave her direction.

"He was deployed, and I was just looking for a way to give back to the military and their families, and his wife at the time had given birth while he was deployed. So he was just thinking of the moms and asked that that be my focus," said Leann Morrissey.

"40 military moms to be whose husbands are currently deployed, we are going to bring them here together and shower them with a luxurious baby shower, give them hundreds, over a thousand dollars worth of gifts," said Voelker.

The price they've paid is having their husbands overseas who are right now deployed, standing for freedom. The wives this morning were honored for their sacrifice as well.
