The 33-year-old mother of two was killed outside her home and right in front of her young son.
FOX 10 has learned new information about the tumultuous relationship between the couple.
Friends say Sarah had just left her husband and was hoping for a new beginning.
Instead, family and friends came together in front of her Scottsdale home where her life came to a tragic end.
"We're going to miss her, we're here tonight to let her know we love her, we have candles and flowers," said Marty Logan, a friend.
Those who knew and loved 33-year-old Sarah Drewer came together Wednesday evening to remember and pray for the mother of two.
"Sarah was a strong woman, she was independent, making it happen, and taking control of her life," said Logan.
But she didn't have control of her estranged husband, Doug Drewer. Sarah had an order of protection against him, but that didn't stop him from showing up at her home Tuesday morning.
A construction worker heard screaming and was able to get a child out of the house safely, before Doug shot Sarah, then turned the gun on himself.
The child who witnessed the incident is in state custody, the couple's other child remains with family members.
Now, the focus is on Drewers' kids; they are only in kindergarten and fifth grade.
Friends say they are struggling and confused, and are coping with having lost both their father and mother.
"She was a beautiful mom, and a great friend to a lot of different people... anybody here you talk to will say she was really an angel on this earth," said Logan.
Friends tell us the two kids will soon be reunited, and their grandparents will likely take custody of them. Meanwhile, Sarah's family is in the process of planning her funeral.
