a picture of the dog sitting alone on a couch went viral a few weeks ago.
Now "Brownie" the pit bull is in great health and is on his way to his new home.
"He's just a sweetheart, he climbs immediately into your lap, and he gives you all those kisses, such a good temperament," said Bretta Nelson with the Arizona Humane Society.
After almost a month, Brownie is up for adoption.
"It's been a long journey for him, it was mid-January when he was found and he was transferred over to the Arizona Humane Society... he's fully on the mend ready to find his forever home," said Nelson.
He was found abandoned on a couch after his owner moved out and took off.
"He had moved all of his belongings out of the house, sold his house, left the couch out for Goodwill to pick up, and Brownie was sitting on the couch... he claimed that he didn't abandon his dog, that he went to get it, when in fact it was left at the home," said Officer Heather Krimm with the Phoenix Police.
His owner was able to pick him up at the Arizona Humane Society, but he never came.
The Arizona Humane Society expects Brownie to be adopted quickly, saying someone was already on his way to the shelter to adopt the pup. His former owner is facing a class 1 misdemeanor.
"Charges have been submitted to the county attorney, so hopefully the county attorney will pick it up," said Officer Krimm.
And while Brownie may not be available to adopt, the Arizona Humane Society wants to remind people there are plenty of other pets out there with the same type of story, just waiting to be adopted.
