Wrong way driver shuts down Loop 101 on Saturday morning

Arizona Dept. of Public Safety says a wrong-way driver caused a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound Loop 101 near McKellips Road early Saturday morning, shutting down the freeway for more than four hours.

A DPS spokesperson says the vehicle was heading north in the southbound lanes of the freeway just after 4:30 am.  Several vehicles were involved in the crash.  Only minor injuries were reported, according to DPS.

Traffic was routed off the freeway to the frontage road at McKellips, and the Loop 101 opened back up at about 9am, according to a spokesperson with the Arizona Department of Transportation.
