Glendale police say sometime on Monday, a burglary was reported at an apartment complex nearby.
At about 7:30 p.m., the victims called police saying they saw a man with items they believed were stolen from their apartment.
Officers arrived and confronted the suspect, 23-year-old Anthony Tyrone Baker, but he took off on foot into a field near 61st Avenue and Northern.
Police followed the suspect into the field, and at some point the suspect approached an officer.
The officer allegedly saw something in the suspect's hand, felt threatened and fired one shot.
The suspect was taken to a hospital. His injuries are described as non-life threatening.
The officer is okay.
Police say a cellphone was located next to Baker after the shooting.The Associated Press contributed to this story.
