Pregnant Flagstaff woman makes surprise confession to murder

Deputies in Flagstaff are investigating an unusual murder that occurred earlier this week.

Gerry Blair with the Coconino County Sheriff's Department says a 43-year-old woman came into the Flagstaff Police Department on Friday afternoon and confessed to shooting and killing her husband. She then told deputies that the man's body was still inside the home they shared.

At that point, sheriff's deputies with the Coconino County Sheriff's Department took over the case.

At this time, detectives believe the shooting occurred sometime between the late night hours of Wednesday, February 25 and the early morning hours of Thursday, February 26.

During the initial investigation, detectives went to the woman's home and looked through the window and noticed an obviously deceased human body, according to Blair.

Deputies later discovered that the woman and the victim, a 54-year-old man, were not actually married, but they have been living together for approximately 5 years. The couple has a 3-year-old child in common and the woman is currently pregnant with their second child, Blair said.

Deputies also learned that the toddler was present when the murder occurred, according to Blair.

Sheriff's Investigators are in the process of contacting and interviewing numerous individuals who are believed to be investigative leads in this case. They are waiting to identify the male victim or the woman so as to not compromise the investigation.

However, the woman has been arrested and charged with one count of 2nd-degree murder and three counts of tampering with evidence. She is currently in jail at the Coconino County Detention Facility.
