Driver allegedly harms self after officer pursuit

A police chase came to an end early Tuesday morning on Loop 101 and Raintree.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman says they received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. from someone saying they thought they were being followed.

According to DPS, an officer attempted to contact the vehicle near Loop 101 and Broadway, but the suspect fled.

After a pursuit up Loop 101, officers deployed stop sticks near the Cactus exit, causing the suspect to crash and come to a stop.

DPS says the man began harming himself after he was pulled over. His injuries were reportedly so severe, he was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The suspect's name hasn't been released.

A DPS officer was almost hit because a motorist did not obey the "Move Over" law, according to officials.
