Man accused of locking 11-year-old girl in home during burglary

A valley man is accused of breaking into a Mesa home and locking an 11-year-old girl inside.

Police say 29-year-old Ricky Stanford was able to get into the house near Gilbert and McKellips through an unlocked back door last week.  When the girl entered the home, authorities say Stanford locked the garage door.  She yelled for help and Stanford took off from the scene, eventually stealing a struck.

Officers caught Stanford, but according to court paperwork, he tried to get away again by hopping fences and running through backyards as he tried to escape.  He was later arrested and transported to an area hospital.

Per the police report, during an interview with Stanford, he denied being at the home and taking the truck.

Upon his release from the hospital, Stanford was booked into the Mesa City Jail.  He faces robbery, burglary, theft by means of transportation, criminal trespassing, unlawful flight and unlawful imprisonment charges.
