Chaotic carjacking ends with suspect attacking 2 police officers

Two Avondale police officers were hurt after a chaotic car jacking and now a suspect has been arrested in the case.

It all ended near 107th Avenue and Buckeye Road on Sunday when the suspect crashed into a police cruiser.  Everyone survived, but officers say things could have been worse.

One driver says the suspect jumped on his hood and started kicking in his windshield.

"My car was running.. I thought police were going to shoot him, so I jumped around to the other side of the car 'cause I didn't want to get shot, so he jumps in my car and takes off," said James Velasquez.  "He was on something. You go through a window like that.. he was a skinny guy.. punching that window.. he got through that damn window."

Avondale police say the suspect then attacked a responding officer by kicking in that officer's window as well.

Authorities say the suspect came at them with a lead pipe, so they tased him. He was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

The suspect's name has not been released.

Both officers have been released from the hospital.
