Patricia Carter with the Mohave County Sheriff's Department says a woman was taking refuge in the bathroom of the Luvs Truck Stop, east of Kingman, when she handed another woman a note that read, "Please help me. Call the police."
The woman called 9-1-1 while a man police believe to be 39-year-old Arnulfo Ruiz Delatorre, stood outside of the bathroom calling for the distressed woman to come out, Carter said.
The man quickly left the rest stop when he realized police were called.
Police later transported the distressed woman to a local hospital with minor injuries.
During their investigation, detectives learned that Delatorre is the distressed woman's ex-boyfriend. Saturday morning, Delatorre used a knife to force the woman into her vehicle. He then drove her to his home and sexually assaulted her, according to Carter.
Then, Delatorre forced her back into the vehicle and told her they were going to Las Vegas.
The woman tried to escape in Yavapai County, but she was unsuccessful.
While driving on Interstate 40, they ran out of gas near milepost 69, approximately 20 miles east of Kingman. Delatorre and the woman got a ride from a truck driver to the Luvs Truck Stop, Carter said.
Delatorre threatened the woman, telling her that if she called the police he would return to Phoenix and kill her kids and grandkids, according to Carter.
Mohave County officials called Phoenix Police and they have made contact with the woman's family. Authorities are now hoping they can find Delatorre. If you have any information that can help police, call 9-1-1 immediately.
