Buckeye Walmart back open after evacuations for bomb threat

Customers and employees were rushed out of the Walmart store just south of I-10 and Watson Rd. on Sunday after a man claimed he had a bomb in a backpack.  The store was shut down for more than two hours and opened back up on Sunday morning.

Buckeye Police responded to the call at about 5:30am after a man showed up at the store behaving erratically.  When he told workers that he had a bomb in his backpack, employees and customers inside the store were quickly evacuated in an abundance of caution.  The Arizona Department of Public Safety bomb squad was called out to the scene.

Officers say the man who carried the backpack into the store has been taken into custody.   No explosive device was found inside, and the man is expected to undergo evaluation now.  Police are investigating whether he may face charges. The store was opened back up before 7:30am on Sunday.
