Semi Fire shuts down westbound Loop 202 lanes

It was a fiery scene out on the Loop 202 this morning after a semi-truck caught fire, forcing part of the freeway to close for hours.

Phoenix firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the massive plume of smoke.

The initial call came out as a car crash, but when first responders arrived, they found a semi-truck completely engulfed in flames. Take a look at this incredible video.

This is the site many people saw driving on the 202 today...

Flames scorched the truck as black smoke billowed up high into the air. The flames moved from the front, through the trailer. This is on the westbound lanes near 24th Street. You can see the trailer is with Shamrock Foods.

Phoenix fire says the truck was carrying frozen food. Luckily, the driver wasn't injured.

It took several fire crews to put out the fire.

"These pose some unique challenges because of water supply, right? "All you have is the water you brought to get ahead of these things and extinguish them," said Captain Aaron Ernsberger with the Phoenix Fire Department.

All lanes on the Loop 202 are now back open. Phoenix Fire officials say they are investigating what sparked the blaze.
