Norman Greenbaum, the singer-songwriter behind the 1969 rock hit "Spirit in the Sky," has been critically injured in a deadly motorcycle crash that occurred in Northern California Sunday.

The latest reports indicate that Greenbaum was the passenger of a vehicle that turned left, crossing into the motorcycle's path. The vehicle's driver was not injured.

Officials say the motorcycle's 20-year-old driver died at the scene; his passenger was also critically injured.
