Sierra Sharry was expecting a baby with her boyfriend Lane Smith.
When she was eight months pregnant, they decided to go to see jet boat races in El Reno, Okla.
Sharry got hot and decided to go home, she says in a Facebook post. Around 2:30 a.m. the next morning she got a call from one of Smith's family members telling her there was an accident and he had been taken to a hospital with a head injury.
On July 13, 2014, Smith died.
"I lost my best friend. The father of my unborn child. And since that day I have felt so empty inside. A part of me will forever be missing. I loved that man more than life itself," Sharry said in a Facebook post.
Soon after Smith's death, Sharry had their little boy and named him Taos.
When Taos was 6-months-old, she called photographer Kayli Rene to take their family photos.
Rene says in a Facebook post that Sharry asked her to play around with one of their photos by editing Smith into it.
The resulting photo has been shared over 210,000 times on Facebook.
"Thanks to Kayli I now have a picture of my little family. It brought me to tears as I know it will many if y'all. This is how I picture us. Taos and I living our lives the best we can with Lane ALWAYS watching over our shoulder. He is watching out for his little boy better than anyone and i know he's got to be so proud." said Sharry in a post.
