Cow rescued from East Valley canal

Gilbert Fire crews had their hands full on Saturday with a livestock rescue.

Rescue crews responded early Saturday morning to a canal near Higley, just half a mile south of Queen Creek Road, to help a cow that somehow got into the canal overnight.  A technical rescue team had to help the animal out of the water.

It was unclear how the cow got loose, but it was pulled to safety and is expected to be okay.
