One person is dead and another injured in a possible suicide pact at a hotel north of the valley. FOX 10's Mia Garcia reports. 4/10/15
One person is dead another injured after a possible suicide pact at a hotel near Interstate 17 and Anthem Way on Friday.

Police surrounded the Hampton Inn after officers made a grisly discovery in a hotel room.  It appears the couple checked in, but neither had plans to check out.

Authorities say they found a suicide letter in the hotel room.  They're still investigating, but believe the couple may have agreed to end their own lives, but one of them survived.

A worker at the Hampton Inn called 9-1-1 after finding the gruesome scene.

"I just think it's crazy. You think you're safe wherever you go and maybe you're not," said Kevin Rose, who was driving through the Anthem area.

One woman is dead and a man is clinging to life with self-inflicted stab wounds.

"We just pulled up here. We saw all the police and fire," said Kurt Zimmerman.  He and his wife were driving through the area on their way to the airport when they saw the scene.

Phoenix Police detectives are trying to piece together what exactly happened.  Right now, they believe the couple may have been trying to end their own lives -- together.  The man was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.

"We're going to check into a motel up north a little bit and it's a little unnerving.. think you know what could happen at any moment," said Sara Rose, who was driving through Anthem.

The hotel wasn't evacuated and police continue to investigate this case.

"It's tragic. That's for sure.  You would never think that anyone would come down to that, but you know, stuff happens," said Zimmerman.

The couple's names have not been released.
