3-year-old found in backyard pool; family meets 911 dispatcher

It's every parent's worst nightmare; a valley father called 9-1-1 after he found his young daughter unconscious in the backyard pool.

But thanks to the 9-1-1 dispatcher the little girl survived.

That dispatcher gave the father CPR instructions over the phone before crews arrived on the scene. And the little girl's family got to thank the dispatcher in person.

It was an emotional day at the Phoenix Fire Department's 9-1-1 Regional Dispatch Center, as the Nelson family met the dispatcher who saved Piper Nelson's life.

Dispatcher Jennifer Gonzales answered Scott Nelson's 9-1-1 call when he found his daughter in their backyard pool in Buckeye.

"What is the emergency sir?" asked Gonzales during the 9-1-1 call.

"She was floating when I found her," said Scott.

Jennifer gave Scott CPR instructions over the phone before firefighters arrived. Her quick action saved Piper's life and the Nelson family is certainly grateful.

"Jennifer was so much help on the phone, until firefighters got there," said Scott.

It's also a call that Jennifer will never forget.

"It makes every day that I come to work worthwhile, I do make an impact," said Gonzales.
