Glendale man accused of killing his neighbor's cat

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say a Glendale man is accused of shooting and killing his neighbor's cat.

Glendale police say 38-year-old Eduard Yakubov allegedly told officers that he was tired of the 2-year-old cat breaking his flowers and bushes.

The cat was found dead Friday in his owner's backyard after it had been shot with an airsoft gun.

Yakubov told officers he had seen the black cat damaging vegetation in his backyard several times.

He says he saw the cat again on Friday night, grabbed his airsoft gun and shot it.

Police say Yakubov is being held on suspicion of intentional cruelty and mistreatment of animals.

He didn't have an attorney at his initial court appearance Monday.

The cat is being held for the Arizona Humane Society pending a necropsy.
