Man accused of shooting Illinois boy arrested in Mesa

An Illinois man accused of shooting 12-year-old boy in the head while he was waiting for his mom to pick him up in March was arrested in Mesa Sunday morning.

Steson Crider was taken into custody by the US Marshals with the help of the Mesa Police SWAT team at a hotel he was staying in. Crider was found with a handgun and other drugs in his room.

Crider is wanted out of Quincy, IL, where police say he shot 12-year-old Rayshone "Ray" Humphrey, Jr. in the head the morning of March 28. The motive for the shooting still isn't known. Two others, Stefan Crider, Jr. and Julia Crider, have been arrested on obstruction of justice charges, according to authorities in Illinois. Stefan Crider, III is still outstanding.

Steson Crider was booked into Maricopa County jail on $5,000,000 bond and is awaiting extradition to Illinois.

"Apprehending an individual like Mr. Crider for this senseless criminal act demonstrates the result of a solid partnership between law enforcement entities across the country" said U.S. Marshal David Gonzales. "An individual capable of such a violent act is a risk to every community so law enforcement must also operate nationally in order to effectively protect the public."
