Yuma woman dies after being rescued from fire by husband

Yuma fire officials say an elderly woman with Alzheimer's disease died after her husband carried her out of their burning home despite his own frailty.

The Yuma Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1Pc35ZM) the fire broke out around 1 a.m. Saturday inside a park model home at an RV park.

Firefighters say park security and a neighbor helped 87-year-old Jack Vandelaar rescue his 83-year-old wife, Marilyn.

Both were taken to the hospital but Marilyn Vandelaar was airlifted to Maricopa County, where she died from her injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Susan Jolly, the couple's daughter, says her father insisted on caring for her mother.
