Suspect dies after officer-involved shooting in Mesa

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday night in a neighborhood near Broadway and Mesa Drive.

Officers say they responded to a call about gunshots fired.

Mesa Police Det. Esteban Flores says the suspect took off and forced a couple out of their apartment at gunpoint. They weren't injured.

When they arrived to the area, police say a suspect was across the street and had a gun pointed at his chin and shot a round into the air.

At that point, police say an officer shot the suspect.

The suspect was able to get away, but shortly afterward, officers say they heard a gunshot and found the suspect dead.

At this time, police don't know if the officer's shot killed the suspect or if he shot and killed himself.
