How to become a YouTube star

Eva Gutowski, also known as "My Life as Eva," now boasts 2.5 million YouTube subscribers. The Orange County college student says the trick to online domination is interaction.

But only those with a true game plan can rise to the top of a very crowded marketplace.

"About 35 percent of millennials consume all their videos online, and that number keeps growing," says George Strompolos, CEO of Full Screen, a multi-platform digital agency with 70,000-plus creators. Think of Full Screen as the William Morris or ICM or CAA of the internet world.

"In 2006, only 7 percent (of users) created content on the web," he says. "Now it's 75 percent… it's an opportunity for whole new crops of stars to be born."

According to Strompolos, the keys to digital success are: 1) a sparkling, authentic personality; 2) posting regularly and on a consistent schedule; and 3) customizing your strategy for each social media outlet.

"A video that works well on YouTube might be different on Facebook, Snapchat or Instagram," he says.

Once you cross the million followers mark, cha-ching! Endorsement deals come knocking. "You have all these brands coming at you," says Eva. "But you have to be careful and filter it, and be with the ones that are true to you."
