Hilton hosts youth in hospitality event

A handful of kids had a chance to test out working in the real world.

They got hands on experience with different hospitality jobs at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliff's Resort.

Though they are not old enough to have a real job, these kids are getting a taste of the real world.

During the month of May, Hilton has its worldwide youth and hospitality event. It is where resort employees bring their children to work for the day so they can see the different career opportunities.

"Really just to encourage them to start thinking about summer jobs, once they get old enough for that, and really it is a great appreciation for what their parents do as well," said Rose Walz.

Rose Walz helped organize the event at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort.

"You know, none of us know what we want to be when we grow up, so I think it's time to get some thought processes going," she said.

The kids first worked in the kitchen.

"We made a caramel cheesecake, and then with some fruit," said Kaylee Kandrea.

The attendees got to make deserts, make their own plate of desert, they played golf, served food in the ballroom, and got a little competitive.

"Our housekeeping department is doing a bed competition, so a little bit of fun with housekeeping," said Walz.

The hope is that the kids can get an idea of what field they might want to be a part of someday, but Kaylee may already know, she wants to be a chef.

Walz says it is a chance to explore different avenues.

"We want them to think about hotel jobs, and get started early, and we can get them working at pools and restaurants," she said.
