MCSO: Deputy fatally shoots armed suicidal man

Sheriff's deputies opened fire on a suicidal man who approached them with a gun on Monday afternoon.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says 69-year-old Richard Warolf's wife called 911 just after 4 p.m. saying he was drinking and depressed at his home in Sun City.

He reportedly had a gun and was talking about acting aggressively so that police would kill him.

According to deputies, he had texted a family member stating this intention.

His wife left their home and called for help.

When deputies arrived, established a perimeter around the home and tried to coax Warolf out.

After three hours, deputies deployed a a device to create a distraction and SWAT deputies attempted to rush him from one side. However, they couldn't reach him before he reportedly pulled out a gun from his pocket and pointed it toward a deputy.

After SWAT officer immediately fired his gun at Warolf.

The bullet hit him and a SWAT doctor began treatment.

He was eventually taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The case is still under investigation.
