Credit Union robbery suspect taken into custody after high-risk traffic stop

A robbery suspect was arrested near 67th Avenue and Olive on Monday morning thanks to a tip from a citizen.

Glendale Police say West Valley Credit Union employees called 911 around 9 a.m. saying they had been robbed at their location near 91st Avenue and Loop 101.

Shortly afterward, a citizen called saying they were following the suspect away from the bank and saw them get onto Loop 101.

Marked patrol vehicles were able to stop the vehicle and take the suspect into custody. Officials say there was no pursuit, and called it a high-risk traffic stop.

"You know in this case its a difficult situation. This turned out very well. We're appreciative of his involvement and his assistance to us and at the same time we would never ask a citizen to put themselves in harms way but in this case it turned out positively," said Sgt. David Vidaure of the Glendale Police Department.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  His name was not released.

The investigation is ongoing.
