Now police have arrested a man in connection to the case -- the woman's boyfriend.
Pinal County Sheriff's officials have confirmed Rolland Camargo was taken into custody Friday evening in connection to this case, but at this point, he's not being charged in her death and they're not calling this a murder investigation.
Friends describe the victim, 37-year-old Nicole Rivas, as a loving mother to her 5-year-old daughter. She was last seen on June 6th.
Family members reported her missing on Monday after she didn't pick up her daughter, nor did she show up at work.
On Wednesday, Rivas' body was discovered under a shrub in Stanfield -- an area in Pinal County that's about 50 miles away from where she lived.
Detectives say Rivas had no ties to the area she was found in, rather they believe someone dumped her body there after she died.
Friends say Rivas and Camargo shared an apartment together and that they've been in an on and off relationship for the last two years.
A close friend of Rivas' says the couple had been recently fighting and describes their relationship as "rocky."
Friends believe Camargo had something to do with Rivas' disappearance and death.
"There were several different altercations between them," said Perez. "I'm still in awe because Nicole is a fighter. She's been through a lot in her life. I was talking to her sister and she said 'My sister's not going out without a fight. My sister would fight for her life."
Camargo posted several messages on Rivas' Facebook page in the days after she went missing. One reads, "This week hasn't been easy at all, got to be strong.. I just we can find and bring home safely I miss her so much." Another post: "I just want to thank everyone for their help find my girlfriend.. I love this girl with all my heart just pray that we bring her home."
Again, Camargo was arrested Friday afternoon for a crime related to Rivas' disappearance, but he is not at this point being charged with killing her.
We expect to learn more information from PCSO officials Saturday about what happened.
