A company called Silver Car wants to take the headache out of renting, all by using an app.
Many rental car companies now have mobile apps, but this company is unique, it streamlines the rental process by offering just one type of car, an Audi A4 loaded with all the bells and whistles without any up charges. The best part? You can drive away without ever stepping foot in a line.
After a long, cramped flight, the last thing you want to do is wait for a rental car and wonder what vehicle you'll actually get. Thanks to an app called SilverCar you no longer have to.
"Customers don't have lines, we don't have upsells, we don't have any extra fees like additional driver fees," said General Manager John Judd.
John Judd says that SilverCar has streamlined the rental car process, offering just one vehicle: a silver Audi A4 that is fully loaded with free WiFi, satellite radio, and in-car navigation. A far cry from some other rental car competitors.
"They'll upsell you on a Tom Tom or another device that you have to stick to the windshield, or stick here, and they charge you, I don't know 15-20 dollars a day or something like that," said Judd.
The app takes care of the entire rental car process. You can book your car on the app, let them know when you've arrived at the airport, and even use the app to scan a QR code that unlocks the vehicle.
And if you forget to fill up before returning your Audi no need to worry about shelling out $9.99 a gallon.
"We charge pump prices for gas, so we use an app like GasBuddy to see what the local gas prices are, and that's what we charge plus a 5 dollar convenience fee," said Judd.
In just one year SilverCar has tripled its business in Phoenix, a trend it hopes will eventually close the door on the competition.
SilverCar is available in several major cities, including San Francisco, Dallas, Denver and Miami. Prices range from $59 to $89 a day depending where and when you rent.
