Man arrested after 3 malnourished horses found at New River home

A 34-year-old man was arrested after three malnourished and mistreated horses were found at his home in New River on Tuesday. One horse was so bad that it has already been euthanized by a veterinarian.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office's Animal Crimes Unit arrested Billy James Krantz after being alerted to the situation by patrol deputies.

According to deputies, Krantz said he could not afford to feed and take care of the horses.

The horses were removed from the property and taken to a veterinary clinic.

One horse was too ill to survive and the other two remain under close supervision. Their fates are uncertain at this time.

Krantz was charged with one count of cruel mistreatment with serious physical injury, two counts of failure to provide medical treatment and one count of cruel neglect.
