The company says they prepare for the big increase in demand all year long. They also buy and sell power when needed. But sometimes equipment will fail, and outages will happen. The best thing they say you can do is stay informed.
"The best thing they can do is sign up for outage notes," says Zack Thompson with SRP. "We will send you an email or text message. It will be specified to your address, so when were aware there's an outage in your area we'll let you know. We'll let you know what time it started…the reason why you're out of power and then we'll give you an estimated restoration of when we think well get you back in power."
You can also look on SRP's website. They have an outage map that shows where outages are happening and includes the details about the particular outage. SRP also recommends staying prepared by having your cell phone fully charged and a place to go in case you lose power.
