"The investigation indicates a 4-year-old child was in the care of a 20-year-old friend of the child's parents when she lost sight of the child. Upon searching the home, a 16 year old found the child in the pool, pulled the child out and began CPR," stated Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes.
According to Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Mark Vanacore, the boy was unconscious and unresponsive when firefighters arrived at the scene near 35th Avenue and Dunlap on Sunday. The child was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Holmes added, "It was also learned the family had moved to Arizona two weeks prior. In this tragic incident, there was no fence around the pool and it appears everyone had been playing outside with toys before going inside to play video games."
The boy's identity was not released.
