80 teams take part in Tempe's 12th annual Dragon Boat Festival

It's an event that's all about keeping the rhythm. It's the 12th annual Dragon Boat Festival and it is taking place this weekend at Tempe Town Lake Marina, on the North Shore Lake.

It attracts paddlers from all over the world, even as far away as China and Taiwan.

Eighty teams took part in this year's event. It takes a couple-dozen paddlers... and even a drummer to move the 40-foot-long boat.

"They start it in high school up in the Portland area... I'm sure they do it here... Colleges have their teams, and it's a good team sports for companies," said Carol Stull, an event participant.

The festival includes colorful dragon boat races, Asian-Pacific-inspired entertainment, food and vendors. It starts back up tomorrow morning at eight.
