Phoenix workers plan wage protests for 'tax day'

PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix workers are planning to walk off their jobs and stage demonstrations as part of a nationwide effort to protest low wages.

Workers from half a dozen different industries in 200 cities across the U.S. are expected to hold rallies on Wednesday, April 15, also known as 'tax day.'

Phoenix demonstrations are planned at four locations throughout the day beginning at 6 a.m. at a McDonald's near Indian School Road and 51st Avenue and culminating at Arizona State University's main campus at 5 p.m.

Organizers expect as many as 1,000 marchers for the evening demonstration at ASU.

Fast-food workers from national chains including McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King, are expected to join Walmart, industrial laundry, child care and airport service workers in the protests.
