Man accused of animal cruelty; cockfighting evidence found

PHOENIX (AP) - A 52-year-old man was arrested after officers found 71 roosters at a residence near 64th Drive and Van Buren where evidence of cockfighting was found.

A court document said property owner Silvano Tena was arrested Saturday on suspicion of 71 counts of animal cruelty.

According to the document, at least some of the roosters were injured.

Police say Tena admitted to renting out individual pens for the roosters on the property.

Tena did not immediately respond Monday to a message asking for comment.
