Dead bat found outside Oro Valley Library

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - Health officials are looking into whether anyone had contact with a dead bat found outside an Oro Valley library.

The Pima County Health Department says it is not clear how long the bat had been at the front entry doorway of the Oro Valley Library before it was found Thursday.

Officials say the bat was removed by noon that day.

They say anyone who touched it could be at risk for rabies.

The department says the bat was unable to be tested but wants to assess anyone who may have touched it as a precaution.

People and pets can get rabies from direct physical contact with an infected animal such as bites or scratches.

Once symptoms of rabies surface, survival chances are slim.
