PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is due in court Monday as a judge resumes his contempt of court case against the lawman for his acknowledged violating of orders in a racial profiling case.

The contempt case was put on hold for two months ago after Arpaio alleged U.S. District Judge Murray Snow was biased and sought to disqualify him for posing questions about two secret investigations involving the judge that were done on the sheriff's behalf.

A ruling by Snow has since cleared the way for the contempt hearings that began in April to continue.

Lawyers are expected to discuss new hearing dates.

Last week, the U.S. Justice Department and Arpaio agreed to settle a separate civil rights case.

The settlement resolves allegations that Arpaio's office retaliated against its critics.
