Authorities report seizing tons of marijuana in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Law enforcement and border agencies have made several large marijuana seizures this week in Arizona, both at the border and elsewhere.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said it seized 4,300 pounds of marijuana Thursday during a traffic stop. Details on the stop, including its location, where not immediately released.

On Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales inspection facility for commercial vehicles found 12,397 pounds of pot in a shipment that also contained water pump components.

Also Wednesday, Border Patrol agents seized a total of 2,079 pounds in four shipments being hauled by 42 people who'd entered the country illegally, officials said.

The Border Patrol said three of those seizures took place in the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge while the fourth occurred south of Gila Bend.
