California deputy fatally shoots homicide suspect in Arizona

QUARTZSITE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a suspect in a California homicide was shot and killed in western Arizona by a California sheriff's deputy following a chase on Interstate 10.

The shooting occurred Saturday in Arizona's Laz Paz County, where sheriff's officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department in California said one of its deputies fatally shot one of two suspects when the suspect brandished a weapon after the suspects' vehicle was forced to stop.

The department says the numerous shots were fired from the suspects' vehicle at other motorists during the chase through the Blythe area.

The dead suspect's identity was not released but the department said both suspects were from California's Sonoma County.

It said the second suspect surrendered and awaited extradition to California.
