Fort Huachuca newspaper folds after 60 years

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - Fort Huachuca's official newspaper, which has put out a weekly issue for more than 60 years, has ceased publication.

The Sierra Vista Herald reports that the Fort Huachuca Scout printed its last issue July 24.

Fort Huachuca spokeswoman Angela Camara says a lack of readership and advertising decline led to the newspaper's demise.

The Scout was printed by a private company in Lancaster, California under a contract with the U.S. Army. But the content was put out by the post's public affairs office.

Camara says the fort will provide news through online platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.

The Scout first came out on June 18, 1954.
