Man gets prison for robbing bank inside Phoenix supermarket

PHOENIX (AP) - A man who tried to use a cab as a getaway car after a Phoenix bank branch robbery has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison.

Authorities say 24-year-old DeWaynne Montgomery pleaded guilty in May.

He was set for sentencing this past summer before he changed his story and began to claim he was forced into the Feb. 10 robbery of a U.S. Bank branch inside a supermarket.

Authorities say a bank teller added an electronic tracking device along with the more than $2,000 in cash.

Montgomery was arrested after a foot chase after he jumped out of a cab.

He was sentenced Monday to four years and nine months in federal prison and 18 months of supervised release.
